Dec 2005 Posted in Holidays, Travel Overboard: 2 hats and a pair of glassesLeft Gran Rey to go back to San Sebastian (both in La Gomera) intending to do a loop round the North of the island, and see the ‘Organ Pipes’. Sprung out from the harbour wall with no problems and headed out to sea, into a relatively calm area. As we came round the headland the wind came up and, deja vu, we were fighting with the boat to stay on course. We’d practiced reefing before we left, and immediately put a reef in. After about 5 minutes we had a vote and abandoned the route round the North of the island because the water there was going to be even choppier. We had 25 knots, gusting 40.

Dec 2005 Posted in Holidays, Travel Sea sick on way to El HierroSet of at 6am, but Michael, Kevin and I got to lie in until 7.30 (we were on second watch). It was great lying in bed with the noises of departure and feeling the rocking of the boat. About 7ish we hit some strong gusts of wind and Michael and I ended up in the same bunk (and a good opportunity for a cuddle).

Dec 2005 Posted in Holidays, Travel Conger Eel and a day ashoreWoke up feeling a bit delicate after last night’s drinking. We had agreed a late start, but in the end everyone was up at around 7.30, which was helped by the very noisy ferry, 40 metres away. Jonathan cooked a great sausage and scrambled egg breakfast.
